Interparking Confluence in Namur elected best car park in Europe

13/09/2022

Interparking received the European award of best new car park for the quality of its facilities at the 20th EPA (European Parking Association) congress

Every two years, the European Parking Association rewards the quality of public parking structures and services by awarding the best projects with the "European Parking Awards (EPA)".

Parking Confluence, offering 670 spaces, was opened on June 30, 2021 in Namur. As its name suggests, this new car park is located at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, on the emblematic site of Grognon.

Created by the European Parking Association, the objective of these awards is to promote the qualitative improvement of public parking on and off-street.

The car park itself consists of 4 underground floors of 5,000 square meters each. It extends up to 12 meters below ground level, i.e. 9 meters below the level of the Meuse and Sambre rivers.

Working in rock and water was quite complex. The car park was therefore designed as a floating boat anchored in the rock. To compensate for the water pressure, no less than 400 anchors were placed in the rock to guarantee the stability of the structure.

Also nominated among the finalists, the Parking Boulevard in Scheveningen was also in the running in this category. The Muvin application from the Italian company SIS, also a member of Interparking Group, was a finalist in the "Marketing & Communication" category.
