Grognon : 2 months in advance

18/09/2019

From the beginning, the construction site of the Grognon car park is a good example. The respected timing permitted the expansion of the excavations of the cradle of Namur.

It all seemed so easy when the challenge was huge without stopping the traffic. Today we learn that the SPW part of the construction site, which concerns the new road works, is planned two months in advance.

"This is due to good coordination, real transparency between all discussion partners during site meetings and afterwards we also benefited somewhat from the weather," says Erwin Marchal, Mobility and Infrastructure Department of Wallonia.

"This must be emphasized because it will enable us to start building the esplanade earlier." As a reminder, funding is linked to the European Feder program and its timing must be strictly respected, "says Michel Jehaes, head of the department of the city of Namur.

The implementation of phase C would take place in mid-November. It takes place from 17 to 19 September. "The current roundabout for the Walloon Parliament will be moved to its final location and put into use in its provisional version. It currently has a diameter of 22 meters, this will be of 29 meters once moved and will be further enlarged in its diameter up to 44 meters in its final version, "says Erwin Marchal.

But the traffic flow will be taken over forever: the Namur will no longer have to adapt to a new road design until the end of construction at the end of 2020.

The icing on the cake: traffic is not even disturbed during the day. There is a planned diversion from Tuesday 17 to Wednesday 18 September and from Wednesday 18 to Thursday 19 September between 8 pm and 6 am.
